Within the framework of the third version of Space Summit on Wednesday, April 10, the Latin American Remote Sensing, LARS 2024 was launched. The ceremony was headed by Undersecretary of National Assets, Alicia Barrera Lagos, accompanied by the Space Director of the Chilean Air Force, Major General (A) Luis Sáez Collantes along with academic and economic authorities.
Organized by the Aero Photogrammetry Service (SAF) of the Chilean Air Force, has been transformed into one of the most important scientific-academic events of Space Summit, becoming a fundamental pillar for the creation of dialogue spaces and experience exchange in the remote sensing area, through presentations by outstanding researchers, academics, and developers from excellence research centers, prestigious academic institutions from different countries and companies linked to remote sensing.
This sixth version of the event gathers more than thirty outstanding national and international exhibitors distributed in a plenary session, 3 talks, 10 hybrid workshops, and 27 virtual sessions. Their activities summon audiences from different latitudes and productive sectors, addressing topics of interest to the scientific, academic, and users of the community, such as climate change, socio-natural disasters, regional planning, and the use of geoinformation for management and decision-making in various scenarios.
‘’On behalf of the Government of Chile, I wanted to congratulate the Chilean Air Force and the Aero Photogrammetry Service for this initiative that will show and analyze all the advances we have made as a country in the geospatial data development, access to these, and of course the several public policies, in addition to the development of the academia and research’’. The Undersecretary Barrera, said "this seminar is an opportunity to continue working on issues of interoperability, transparency, democratization and, of course, mutual collaboration between the various sectors and institutions so that we can address geospatial information as a strategic input that allows us to provide answers as the State of Chile."
For his part, the Director of the SAF, Lieutenant Colonel (A) Claudio Agüero, emphasized that the objective of LARS is to provide a space for dialogue and collaboration for authorities, professionals, academics, and specialists in the field of earth sciences, to address one of the most urgent challenges of our time: climate change. The Director said, "Gathered in this common interest to harness the power of remote sensing to better understand our planet and make more informed decisions is that, during this meeting, we will explore the many possibilities that the use of multi-spectral images and geospatial data, based on the current technology.'’
Among the exhibitors participating in the LARS 2024 conferences are the geographer of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, aspecialist in extreme natural processes and their interaction with human settlements, Dr. Marcelo Lagos, and the researcher from the University of Alcalá in Spain, expert in remote sensors and forest fire studies, Dr. Patricia Oliva.
In addition to this, simultaneous discussions and workshops are held simultaneously and in conjunction with public, private and academic organizations, which are developed on the premises of the Aero Photogrammetry Service.
